Chapter 4 Number Twelve Grimmauld Place
As they arrive at "Number Twelve Grimmauld Place", Harry is confused with the sight. A muggle apartment with dirty walls and the smell of rotten rubbish together with the garbage tins thrown inside a broken gate stood in front of them. However, as Lupin says something under his voice, a battered door appeared out of nowhere from the end of the apartment between numbers 11 and 13.
As they enter the door and paddle through stone steps, another door; this time rather more materialized and new appeared in from of them. This particular door opened with professor Lupins tap with a wand, as they entered a house's gloomy hallway, with peeling wallpaper and age-blackened portraits and a cobwebbed chandelier gleaming weakly above them. A hurried step came from the dar end of the hallway where Ron's mom (Mrs. Weasly) hurries towards Harry and hugging tightly. She informs him to wait for diner until a meeting with all the arrived adult wizards finishes. Although Harry was curious about the contents of the meeting, he follows Mrs. Weasly which leads him hurriedly upstairs into a room where Ron and Hermione waited for him and hurried downstairs once again.
Hermione hugs Harry tightly as Ron follows her with the word "Let him breathe, Hermione," grinning. Hedwig came soaring from the ceiling of the room, as Harry stroked her feathers. "Pecked us half to death when she brought your last letters, look at this-" says Ron shows him a deep cut in his right hand. "Sorry about that, but I wanted answers, you know-" replies Harry. As they proceed with their conversation, Harry realized himself being more irritated towards his friends; He still did not understand where he was, and what exactly was the "Order of Phoenix" either when the two of them seemed to know almost everything. Hermione explains that they were informed by Dumbledore to not explain anything too important to him by owl letters because they could be intercepted. "I think he thinks I can not be trusted." Says Harry, "He could've kept me informed if he'd wanted to." "Or that I can't take care of myself." Of course, he doesn't think that!" Hermione disagrees. "Mum won't let us hear the meetings, (too) she thinks we're too young." Follows Ron. However, Harry was already furious enough, as he stands up in a burst to start shouting towards his friends. "SO YOU HAVEN'T BEEN IN THE MEETINGS, BIG DEAL! YOUV'E STILL BEEN HERE, HAVEN'T YOU?" - "AND I'VE MANAGED MORE THAN YOU TWO'VE EVER MANAGED AND DUMBOREDORE KNOWS IT." continues Harry until he finishes glaring towards their friends shooting the last question; "What is this place, anyway." "Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix" "-A secret society Dumboredore's in charge-It's the people who fought against You-Know-Who last time," explained Hermione quickly.
You-know-who is the name people used for "Voldemort," the antagonist enemy though the Harry Potters book series. In the fourth book, Voldemort had relived. Harry and his friend Cedric, had been trapped in his possession. (A long story,) Cedric was murdered by Voldemort, and Harry had a narrow escape from him.
After a long explanation from Hermione, Ron, and other recruits who joined in later on, Ron's siblings, Fred, George, and Ginny, Harry had finally calmed down enough. As they headed down towards dinner, as the meeting of the wizards seemed to have finished, a crash sounded in the hallway. Tonks had tripped on an umbrella stand. This was a big deal for the house; a woman in the portrait on the wall suddenly started to yell loudly. "Filth! Scum! By-products of dirt and vileness-"As Professor Lupin and Mrs. Weasly hurried towards them to shut the curtain of the portrait, a man with long black hair joined them. "I said - shut - UP!" he shouted as they finally succeeded in shutting the portrait curtain. Painting from the long dark hair was Harry's godfather Sirius. "Hello, Harry,"
-"I see you've met my mom."
Again, it was a great chapter, but also a painful read. It was a great surprise to see Harry so furious towards his friends; it was probably the first time through the series. However, the way how their conversation proceeds until Harry's shouting was realistic. As a reader, I somehow felt the pressure and uncomfortable atmosphere of the situation. One thing I noticed though reading the fifth book until this chapter was that, compared with the other books, the contents seemed to be much darker and mature. I thought the author was expressing how Harry and his friends were slowing becoming adults, as in the books, they are 15. I am looking forward to how the story and Harry and his friends mature though the upcoming chapters.
